'Believe and Achieve Together'

Year 5 and 6 Science win the Science Quiz

On 7th November 2014, 8 children from Butlers Court School travelled to Stoke Poges School to compete in an awesome, challenging Science Quiz.  We were split into 2 teams, with 2 representatives from each year and there were 10 teams altogether from local schools.  Team 1 included William McLaughlin, James Barrett, Harry Taylor and Laurie Gawne and team 2 Ted Jeffries, Lexie Winfield, Curtis Nelson and Jamie Wilkinson.

The quiz was very hard and there were lots of difficult, tricky questions covering subjects such as space, physics, the elements and inventions.  All the way through the quiz we were very nervous and tried hard to win.

At the start of the competition, team 2 stormed into an early lead with 180 point gap.  Soon team 1 caught up and went ahead, with Gerrards Cross School close behind.  At the end of the first set of 30 questions, Gerrard Cross were in the lead, ahead of Butlers Court 1 by 20 points.

The final 10 questions, worth either 80 or 100 points each, saw a nail-biting finish. Both Gerrards Cross and Butlers Court got the next 5 questions right and then Team 1 answered a 100 point question right and went into the lead.  At the final question we realised that only one of us needed to get it right to win, so we chose one answer each and Team 1 won the competition by 125 points, with a total of 1,635.  Team 2 scored well, getting many questions right at the crucial stages and came in 5th place.

Well done to all the team members, and a big thanks to Mr Reynolds, Mr Sutton and the parents and grandparents who came to support us.
