• Seeds from Space

  We are delighted to have been selected by the RHS to take part in an exciting project - Rocket Seeds - and will shortly receive 100 seeds.  

   

  These seeds were taken up into space by British Astronaut Tim Peake to the ISS and will shortly be returning to Earth, landing in the Pacific Ocean.  We will receive 100 of these seeds and 100 that stayed on Earth to plant and measure, submitting our results online.

   

  Miss Hale and the Reception classes will take charge of these seeds and the responsibility for measuring their progress and look forward to seeing the results.  It is good to be part of this exciting national project aimed at inspiring pupils to think scientifically

• Languages Day

  Last Friday we had our International Day. We all dressed up to represent a country from around the world. There were some Spanish, French, German and Japanese costumes, among others.

  We also had a French café where all of the children had to speak in French to the waiters. KS2 were tested by an adult to earn their spending money whereas KS1 were given a tick sheet and were allowed to have one of each food.

  In class, children learnt a variety of languages and about life in other countries. Each class also practised a song or rhyme in French which they will perform in assembly.

  

• The Bett Show

  We win again!

   

  Annually held at the ExCel centre in London, the BETT show is probably the world’s leading showcase for the latest technology in education.
  
  A group of four boys (Oscar Timms, Magnus Wolff, Jasper Patton and Jack Boxley) together with Mr Sutton, attended the show in January to programme a car for a race in Maths in Motion.
  
  
  
  
  

  
  During the morning they were able to observe the technology, testing many new unique applications, and gaining a large crowd on some of the stands. Their favourite was the new Minecraft for Education. Despite all the enjoyable engineering, they were beginning to think about programming the car, which they were going to race against 7 secondary and 7 primary schools in the afternoon.
  
  

  
  Arriving at the Toshiba stand they started work on their car and reported the event.
  
  

   

   “In order to complete the car safely in the 1 ½ hours given, we separately went away to measure the track, find features and log into the computer to commence workshop adjustment. (these are all the first stages to programming the car). We all felt increasingly confident in our abilities to program a successful car. With our calculations going well, we were ready to enter after one hour. Knowing we had a large amount of time left, we went back just in case we could produce a bit more speed. Although it is extremely rare, the nice man, Richard, on the stand rewarded us with a few more practice laps and with these we managed to move up a few places. This therefore meant that we were second position on the grid. Proud with our days’ work and our time up, we left the stand with keen smiles and hopes for a victorious win.
  
  During the next day whilst waiting for the race, we were permanently talking about it. Finally! the time came to watch the race in class; we all stood on our chairs, hearts racing in case of a failure. As the race drew to an end we were in first place watching intently for the finish flag. The whole class erupted in a cheer as we had come first in the tense race!”
