  • Year 1 Travel and Transport Visitor

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

On Wednesday 27th March, Mr Heaven came to visit the year one classes to tell them all about his job as a pilot. Mr Heaven told the children about a day in the life of a pilot. He talked about how he became a pilot and his training, he told the children about the preparations he makes before a flight and he explained to the children how airplanes can fly. Then the children watched a video of a plane taking off from 3 different angles! Then, of course, the children had LOTS of interesting questions about airplanes and flight which Mr Heaven kindly answered. He then gave each child a special pilot’s sticker and paper airplane. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Heaven for spending his afternoon off with year one.

  • Gerrards Cross Rotary Club IT Challenge

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

All the children in KS2 completed posters for the local Rotary Club Challenge in competition against other schools.  The task this year was all about producing a poster around the theme of the dangers that plastic pose to our environment.   We are pleased that Freddie Kennett and Annie McEvoy both won prizes and attended a presentation ceremony in Gerrards Cross, with Mr Sutton who received a £100.00 prize for the school. • EYFS visit Shortenills

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

Panda and Giraffes had an amazing trip to Shortenills. The weather was perfect and we had a fantastic time exploring in the woods. We had to search for lost teddy bears, build beds for them and make them a picnic. We went on a minibeast hunt and collected interesting creatures. We also made a magic potion in cauldrons using natural materials which we found in the woods. We added some magic herbs and beans. Hopefully some magic beanstalks are now growing at Shortenills!

  • Y5 at the Royal Albert Hall

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

Earlier this term 28 pupils from Yr5 had the amazing experience of performing to an audience of 6000 at the Royal Albert Hall. They joined 1600 children from 60 Buckinghamshire schools for a concert to include a premier performance of "Dare To Dream", a semi-staged opera by Hannah Conway. Our impressions -

"The colours of the lighting were amazing"

"I will remember the stunning reds and golds inside the hall"

"It was strange because we couldn't see the audience but we knew they were there!"

"The pride I had in performing in front of my parents, once I had spotted them"

"It gave me Mrs Marshall’s warm fuzzy feeling!"

    "12,000 eyes watching us"

"When we first entered the hall I thought woaaaaaaaaaaw!"

Congratulations to all, what a fantastic achievement!

  • Maths Masterclass

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

This term we have been running a series of Maths Masterclasses for schools in our liaison group supported by the Royal Institute.   Pupils from St Mary's, Holtspur, Stoke Poges, Seer Green and Farnham Common have joined five pupils from Butlers Court for a series of maths investigations designed to challenge their understanding and promote their love of the subjects.  The series started with Paul Stephenson leading a session on 'Perspective Drawing', then Mr Sutton lead a number of sessions.  Above you can see Zoe, Alice, Seren, Samuel and Max with the results of a ratio and proportion investigation using blue and red water mixed together in different proportions to make various shades of purple.   The sessions are being concluded by Alison Eves from the Royal Institute running a session on 'Around the Planets with Number.'

  • Imperial War Museum

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

Excited classes of Y6 children took the train up to London to visit the Imperial War Museum as part of their study of the First World War.  After being welcomed by a guide they explored the First World War expedition which guides you through the conflict.  They were then challenged, in a workshop, to make a documentary on a couple of items in the collection to tell a small story based on a couple of the artefacts.  We finished with an exploration of the Victoria Cross gallery with most of the children humbled by the countless stories of self-sacrifice.  The day concluded with another exciting journey on tube and train.
