  • Y6 Imperial War Museum Visit

    Thu 13 Feb 2020

On Tuesday 4th February, Year 6 set out on their trip to the Imperial War Museum, travelling by train and tube was an exciting way to start the day. Once we arrived we were amazed by the size of the building. We started off on Level 0, exploring all of the WW1 artefacts, models and reconstructions - it was amazing. Particular highlights included the range in uniforms, the boats, the ‘good luck’ items, the fake sniper tree and the trench with its periscopes. After we left this area, we explored other wars that have happened since. The most noticeable changes were the size in machinery and the armour/protection that was used. Another particularly interesting section was on the very top floor. The Lord Ashcroft exhibition housed a huge collection of Soldiers’ medals and in particular the Victoria Cross. It was interesting to see what these people had been through and the range of campaigns they had been on. Overall, we had a fantastic day and really enjoyed seeing actual artefacts from over 100 years ago

  • 4RP Visit to Shortenills

    Thu 13 Feb 2020

Shortenills is the best place for a school outing! Our first activity was orienteering. In orienteering we had to find square cards with some letters and an animal. Most of 4RP really liked den building. I learnt that conifers, ferns and moss all have spores and not flowers.

I enjoyed our visit to Shortenills because we got to experience so many different activities like pond dipping, orienteering and a night hike. One of my favourite bits was sleeping in a dormitory with all my friends. I also liked the campfire because we told riddles and ate smores.

Year 4 went to Shortenills on 3rd February. When we got there we had a tour of the dormitory and I chose a bunk bed which I shouldn't have because I kept bonking my head on the top bunk!

At Shortenills our first activity was orienteering. It was my favourite activity. I also enjoyed pond dipping because it was interesting looking at all of the creatures and identifying them. We learnt how to read a map, use a compass and some other things. I liked doing the team building as well.

  • Florence Nightingale Visits Year 2

    Thu 13 Feb 2020

On 27th January Year 2 had a visit from Florence Nightingale. She told us all about life in the Victorian times – we were shocked by the inequality between men and women and also by how long everything took without all of our modern technology! She told us how she became a nurse and how she travelled to Turkey to help wounded soldiers in the Crimean War. We loved dressing up as soldiers and nurses and then bandaging up our wounds. Meeting Florence helped us to understand how she changed the way people are taken care of in hospitals by recognising the importance of being clean.

  • EYFS - Happy Chinese New Year

    Thu 13 Feb 2020

In EYFS we had an amazing week learning the story of how Chinese New Year originated when the animals had a race. We also found out about all the different celebrations and traditions which Chinese people participate in. We found out that 2020 is the Year of the Rat and we iced our own 'rat' biscuits. We made Chinese masks and had our own parade with musical instruments. We also made our own meals in our 'Chinese Restaurant'. We would like to say a huge thank you to Yian’s mummy and grandma who came into school and made Chinese dumplings with us. Yian also showed us her beautiful Chinese dragon.
