  • Early Years Pottery

    Thu 11 Dec 2014
We are very fortunate at Butlers Court to have our own kiln so the children every year get the opportunity to create, glaze and fire their own pottery.  Our Early Years children below are making Christmas angels.
  • Chiltern Music Academy Opportunities

    Thu 11 Dec 2014

On Monday, 10th November I visited Butlers Court School to speak to the children about the musical opportunities available to them at Chiltern Music Academy. Throughout my stay I was impressed by the warm, happy atmosphere of the school, and the politeness of the children. The children sang heartily and, by the end of the assembly, managed to sing in three part harmony which was a great achievement. The staff gave the children an extremely positive lead by joining in wholeheartedly, and this made for a very happy session.

Quite understandably, many children are nervous of entering a room full of unknown people led by an unknown teacher, and so my visit offered an invaluable opportunity for them to meet me, and to sing a few songs that they could expect to sing should they come and join a choir led by myself at Chiltern Music Academy.

Chiltern Music Academy is an independent organisation which has enjoyed a very successful launch since September. All the Orchestras, Bands, Choirs, and Chamber Groups are well attended, and the special launch event entitled the Big Noise was a wonderful day. We were fortunate that two of our six internationally acclaimed Patrons, Nicholas Daniel and Christine Rice, were able to be present. The Bucks Free Press also wrote a very favourable article.

If you would like to view a short video clip of the Big Noise, or find out more about the musical opportunities available to all school age children at Chiltern Music Academy, please visit the CMA website:

  • Year 4 Extreme Environment Sleep Over

    Thu 11 Dec 2014

On Friday 12th September year 4 slept outside the year 5 block in the Butlers Court school grounds.  Unusually, when they tried to build their tents, they kept on falling down!

Mr Sutton, deputy head teacher, told them how to put up their tents.  Amber age 8 replied “the hardest part was when we had to tie it to the rail it was made out of tarpaulin and very rough string.”

After building their tents they went on to the field to play football or rounders. Amber and Madison played rounders. It was hard to see in the dark. Mrs Lansdown soon regretted choosing a brown ball  as she was soon not able to see it! Madison, age 8 whispered “my parents must be panicking right now.”

Then they went to the BBQ, they had burgers and hot dogs. At the campfire they had a very scary story called the Red Room. They also had squashy marshmallows and digestive biscuits. Then they had hot chocolate. Kiera cried “I love it!”

Then they went to bed. Some people didn’t go to sleep until 3.00 in the morning! Shana whispered “go to sleep Amber and Madison right now!”

At breakfast they had bacon rolls and hot chocolate and all year 4 enjoyed their breakfast.

Amber shouted “can we do this again?” and Mrs Lansdown said “I am up for this next

  • Year 5 and 6 Science win the Science Quiz

    Thu 11 Dec 2014

On 7th November 2014, 8 children from Butlers Court School travelled to Stoke Poges School to compete in an awesome, challenging Science Quiz.  We were split into 2 teams, with 2 representatives from each year and there were 10 teams altogether from local schools.  Team 1 included William McLaughlin, James Barrett, Harry Taylor and Laurie Gawne and team 2 Ted Jeffries, Lexie Winfield, Curtis Nelson and Jamie Wilkinson.

The quiz was very hard and there were lots of difficult, tricky questions covering subjects such as space, physics, the elements and inventions.  All the way through the quiz we were very nervous and tried hard to win.

At the start of the competition, team 2 stormed into an early lead with 180 point gap.  Soon team 1 caught up and went ahead, with Gerrards Cross School close behind.  At the end of the first set of 30 questions, Gerrard Cross were in the lead, ahead of Butlers Court 1 by 20 points.

The final 10 questions, worth either 80 or 100 points each, saw a nail-biting finish. Both Gerrards Cross and Butlers Court got the next 5 questions right and then Team 1 answered a 100 point question right and went into the lead.  At the final question we realised that only one of us needed to get it right to win, so we chose one answer each and Team 1 won the competition by 125 points, with a total of 1,635.  Team 2 scored well, getting many questions right at the crucial stages and came in 5th place.

Well done to all the team members, and a big thanks to Mr Reynolds, Mr Sutton and the parents and grandparents who came to support us.

  • Football League Kids Cup

    Thu 11 Dec 2014

The first half of the season finished with the Football League Kid’s Cup organised by Wycombe Wanderers.  In our league two goals apiece from Ted Jeffery and Teyte Smith gave us a 4-1 win over Iver.  This was followed by a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart with another goal from Ted Jeffery.  Against Longwick the team totally dominated and three goals from Ted Jeffery, two from William McLaughlin and one from James Barrett gave us a 6-0 victory.  Our final game was against Stoke Poges which was a tough exciting game with Ted Jeffery giving us an early lead before Stoke equalised  late on, eliminating us as they had scored one more goal.  However, the squad of William McLaughlin, Alex Hamilton, Ted Jeffery, Jack Smith, James Barrett, Teyte Smith, Tommy Evans and Jasper Patton could look back on a good morning’s work.
