Home Learning during the Coronavirus
By Emily Tamagni, 4RP
We have been home schooling for over a week now. To be truthful, I am sad school is shut because I don’t get to see my friends and I really miss them! I also have to work with my younger sister in Year 2 who needs more help than I do and there is only one adult available. But at least I have a big garden with a trampoline and a climbing frame to play on when we take breaks. Even though we can’t go out to see any of our friends, we can still FaceTime them and that’s fun too. Google classroom has been a big help because you can socialise with people from your class and check on the work your teacher has been posting. Home schooling does mean that I have more time to do what I like, like baking and playing tennis outside. We can’t go out to the shops but we have stocked up on some food and have a lot of ingredients for baking! The work seems a bit harder than it would have been at school because my mum and dad aren’t teachers so they don’t always know how to explain everything as well as Ms Parry would. Home learning has meant that I’m on the computer a lot more than I normally am and that makes a change. I’m not yet bored of home learning but I really hope we can get back to school soon!
Pandas and Giraffes really loved the Danceathon!! We think we threw some very cool dance moves and raised lots of money for Sport Relief.
5JM put together an assembly all about Sport Relief. They didn't just want to raise awareness of this great cause but they wanted to raise money. They set about making a plan and they came up with a sponsored dance a thon! Everyone in 5JM started making posters when we went home. Then Mrs Moon chose the 3 winning posters and they were Emily's, Gordon’s and Bella’s, we put them up around the school so everyone would know. Soon the word was out 5JM were doing a dance a thon all the school was buzzing about it and finally the day came. Mrs Digby was on the stage busting some moves and even some boys from year 5 joined her all having so much fun. We raised £2575.00 Thank you to everyone who joined - what an amazing event!

The weather was perfect for our trip to Shortenills. We had a fantastic time exploring in the woods searching for lost teddy bears. We went on a minibeast hunt and collected interesting creatures which we looked at through magnifiers. We also made a magic potion in cauldrons using natural materials and herbs which we found in the woods. We added some magic water to our potion and hopefully some magic beanstalks are now growing at Shortenills!
On 6th March our Year 3/4 choir joined 5 other local school choirs to sing in the Beaconsfield Festival of Choirs, organised by Jane Smith. What an uplifting afternoon it was. Each choir sang 2 songs and then we all joined together to sing an especially composed song "Sea Fever" by Adam Saunders. It was the perfect opportunity to perform to others and our children sang beautifully, with enthusiasm and passion. All that hard work rehearsing was certainly worth it (and the orange and biscuits afterwards of course!).
Thank you hugely to the children who participated and made us so proud to be from Butlers Court.
My uniform and school shoes have gone to sleep for now,
My book bag is waiting at the door.
No teachers, no playground, no green group for me,
Everything changed so quickly.
Now my garden is my classroom, my sister and brothers my friends,
Ticking off my school tasks until horrible Coronavirus ends.
There are campfires, paper chains, walking out down country lanes.
So very many ways in which my daily life
has changed.
Thank you teachers and NHS for all you continue to do,
I guess it’s so long from us for now,
We will be back together stronger Butlers Court,
We must believe one day, somehow.
